Experience a quintessential big wave day on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. This ocean & wave picture was taken along the stretch of famed beach Banzai Pipeline (more appropriately it is the back side of the wave named Back Door). Feel the power of the turquoise ocean wash over you as cloud shadows dance across the water on this majestic wave.

PHOTO STORY:
The Back Door Pipeline photo happened on a quintessential big wave day. I generally don't take ocean pictures at the stretch of beach at famed north shore surf break, Banzai Pipeline. The competition with the guys is just too much They are very territorial. Who knew right?! The swell was building and I knew once it passed about 20 foot most of the other photographers would be gone. When Pipe hits about 25 foot it becomes a sheer closeout. You can see in the photo it was close to doing just that. When I arrived the light was perfect! Although is was a stormy day there was Just enough shining through the clouds to illuminate the wave to a beautiful turquoise blue and also enough light to create cloud shadows dancing across the ocean, creating beautiful contrast against the foam and wave. I was only down there shooting for about 25 minutes before the conditions became a total closeout and no more barrels were visible. Luckily I got one of my most iconic beautiful ocean pictures!
