Hawaiian rainbows do exist under the reef in this Mermaid Cave photograph. This amazing sea cave is only accessible at low tide. I had heard rumors of a this special cave. Before the days of Instagram, everything was hidden. I admit I'm old school, to me the harder it was to find, the more special it was when I actually found it. It took some sleuthing before I found the Golden Ticket to this sea cave. There were many possible entrance holes in the reef from above in the area of the cave. I popped my head down a few times with a few false starts before I found the right entrance. I had to plan and watch the tides carefully because I didn't want to be caught in the strong current of the tide coming in while I was in the cave. When I first went down into the cave, the sun was behind a cloud. It simply took my breath away when the sun came out and shown through 'windows' in the ceiling! The colors are breathtaking, all the shades of the rainbow. I realized the vivid colors are caused by coral growing on the reef. The pebble beach was made by chunks of shells and rounded pieces of coral that rolled over and over becoming smooth in the ocean. I wanted to stay down there forever but sadly the tide started to come in and it was time to go. I felt so blessed to take this sea cave beach scene & ocean picture of the Mermaid Cave.
